Here at Anthony C. Quartell M.D. & Associates, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of services for the health needs of women of all ages. From the beginning of the puberty process to the very end of menopause and all the changes in between, our physicians are with you every step of the way.
A pregnancy is an extra special time in any female’s life and we are so happy to be a part of this journey with you. We strive to provide the highest level of care meanwhile maintaining your full trust and comfort through each stage of the pregnancy process.
We recommend for anyone trying to conceive to go through an evaluation before considering pregnancy. This also goes for your spouse/partner. Female evaluations in our office include but are not limited to a review of personal/family history, testing such as bloodwork and pap smears and various physical exams. This is all to ensure that you are in optimal health and prepare you to welcome a baby into your body.
Congratulations! You are now pregnant and ready to start prenatal care. After confirming your pregnancy in our office, a first trimester ultrasound will be performed and bloodwork will be done. You will be provided with educational material that will assist you in your journey, as well as prescription vitamins, etc. to keep your health in tip top shape.
From that visit, we recommend you come in for a check-up every 4 weeks in your first trimester, every 2 in the second trimester and almost weekly in the last trimester. They are intended to monitor your baby’s growth and make sure everything is going smoothly. These visits may be with different obstetric practitioners to get you acquainted with any doctor that may be on call when you’re ready to deliver.
A routine check-up consist of the following:
- Weight measure
- Checking blood pressure and urine
- Monitoring uterus size
- Listening to fetal heart beats
- Discussing care plan
- Answering any questions
If any medical issues were to arise, more frequent visits would be scheduled to address to concerns. We welcome the baby’s father to join you on your visits and are open to discuss other accommodations to ensure you’re fully comfortable.
We offer midwifery options to assist you in various aspects of your pregnancy. Even if you prefer a traditional birth in a hospital with your Obstetrician, a midwife can be the perfect experienced set of hands, especially for first time parents, or just there for the moral support in such an emotional time.
Aside from prescribed prenatal vitamins, we do not recommend taking any other medication during pregnancy. This includes excluding over-the-counter drugs such as Advil and Tylenol.
You’re in labor! Although this may seem like a hectic, scary moment, please make sure to call the office when your water breaks and you believe you are in labor. Keep our number saved somewhere close, if not memorized, because you never know when and where that moment will surprise you!
After a vaginal delivery, we recommend a follow up visit after 4-6 weeks and 2 weeks after a cesarean section delivery. These are just as important as the prenatal visits. Remember that delivering a baby isn’t just about making sure your newborn is healthy, but that you are in optimal health as well. Yes, having a newborn to care for is a stressful time, especially for new mothers, but remember to get your rest and nutrition after delivery to properly heal and be able to care for your child.
At this visit, your Obstetrician will provide pelvic and breast exams, discuss breastfeeding and other aspects of baby care, as we all as answer any questions you may have.
